(Decatur County, Ind.) - The Decatur County Sheriff’s Office reported a medical incident that occurred at the Decatur County Detention Center on Saturday, February 1.
Deputies discovered inmate Shain Coffey, 32, of North Vernon unconscious in his cell and immediately administered lifesaving techniques.
Coffey was transported to the Decatur County Memorial Hospital where he later passed away.
Coffey, was in the Decatur County Detention Center for serious Violent Felon in Possession of a Firearm and Possession of Methamphetamine both felonies.
The family has been notified.
Sheriff Dave Durant called the Indiana State Police to assist and ISP detectives are handling the investigation.
