Landscape Painting and Portrait Drawing Class ~ November 1, 8, 15, 22 & 29 5:00pm-6:30pm Madison Public Library A comprehensive series of classes on Mondays in the Auditorium. Landscape painters will be learning Landscape painting broadly, with a special emphasis on water in landscape, culminating in the Smithsonian Water/Ways exhibit from January to February 2022, in which students will be encouraged to contribute their work to a special gallery showing at the Library. Students will pursue their own landscape projects in the medium of their choice; oils, acrylics, watercolor, pastels, colored pencils, ink, charcoal, graphite…mixed media, whatever! Each student will need to purchase materials for the class. Instructor Russell Vossler will coach, tutor, and exhort student efforts, giving demos and step-bystep instruction as needed (such as for color mixing, technique, perspective, and so on), and pithy lectures, but the emphasis will be on creativity and fun, and getting right to work making masterpieces! For Drawing Students: students from the ongoing Online Class on Thursdays and lately from the resumption of In-Person Drawing instruction at the Library will not be forgotten! Concurrent with the Landscape painters, they’ll receive the same attention as before, and can continue their studies in accurate drawing, observation, and interpretation via Portraiture (or whatever other kind of drawing they choose). Of course, new students of drawing will be welcome to join! Suggested supplies are common household/office-type items; principally regular No. 2 pencils, pens, office-type printer paper, a ruler or straight edge, and a drawing board of some kind. Other materials can be used, as desired, also. Adult and Young Adult – all skill levels are welcome. Mask wearing and social distancing required. Instructor Russ Vossler.
