(Washington D.C.) - As those much-awaited Economic Impact Payments are starting to hit bank accounts many are left wondering if they are receiving a check or what they do if they don't have a bank account.
For those of you who are questioning if you are receiving a payment, you can visit the IRS website. Once on the website, you will fill out the form with your information, and it will let you know if you are receiving payment or not.
For those who do not have a direct deposit set up, the government will mail a check to your last known address, the address used in your most recent tax filings.
If you did not file your 2018 or 2019 tax returns, or if you need to change your information, visit the IRS website. You will find tabs on the “Economic Impact Payments” page. This includes how to check your payment status, select direct deposit or check, and enter updated bank account information, which the IRS may not automatically have.
As a reminder, the IRS will not call you and ask for any personal information, if you are to receive a call do not give any information. If you do receive a call related to the impact payments hang up and call the City of Madison Police Department or the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.
