Mask Mandate on Buses Lifted!

Mandated lifted effective immediately

March 1, 2022

Dear Madison families,

As was recently reported, the CDC has rescinded its mask mandate on school buses. Since this was announced, we have been trying to determine the chain of command regarding this mandate. Normally, throughout this pandemic, the CDC issues guidance, and the various other entities issue their guidelines or requirements. It appears that in this case, the CDC was the issuing entity of the mandate...it did not come directly from any other Federal agency and has been adopted by the IDOE. The IDOE has now also given schools the ability to determine what to do with masks on buses. With that stated, we have always followed CDC and Indiana officials' guidelines. Effective immediately, masks will no longer be required on our buses. Masks continue to be optional in our buildings as stated in our February 22, 2022 update. Masks are also optional for those who wish to continue to wear them on buses. We appreciate the efforts of everyone involved as we have navigated the last two years. As we progress through the next phase, we ask that everyone continues to monitor their student's health at home, if they are ill, keep them home, continue to encourage diligent personal hygiene, and wash hands often so that we can maintain healthy learning environments.

Sincerely, Dr. Jeff Studebaker, Superintendent
