FREE Nocturnal Adventures for Families

Whooo has the best hearing of our local nocturnal wildlife? Can bats and other mammals see color? What allows scent to move longer distances at night? Get the answers to these questions and more during this FREE program focused on the wild life of our night life!
After brief introductions, participants engage in hands-on games to learn the unique adaptations that make owls a top predator in the nocturnal world. As twilight turns into darkness, we walk around the lake and into the forest to learn more fascinating sensory tools and secrets of night-time wildlife. These activities will be led by two retired Park Naturalists. All activities occur outdoors.
Family members ages 8 and up are welcome accompanied by an adult(s). We request one adult for every 3 appropriately aged children. Each family group only needs one ticket for registration. You will be asked in the registration to list the ages of each family member attending. Our maximum attendance will be 20 individuals.
In case of inclement weather, our rain date for this program is the next evening: Saturday, August 23 at the same time and location. Please make sure your family is available for both nights.
Light refreshments are served before departing home. Every family group receives a take home packet that includes a field guide to birds of prey in the Midwest, a list of upcoming programs and information on Big Oaks National Wildlife Refuge.
