Scottsburg - Detectives and Crime Scene Technicians with ISP Sellersburg are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred just east of Scottsburg early Wednesday morning.
The initial investigation reveals that around 1 am Wednesday, Scott County Deputies responded to a shooting at an apartment located at 2929 E. SR 56 in Scottsburg. Deputies discovered that two male occupants of the residence were involved in an argument, and one subject shot the other with a handgun during the dispute. EMS personnel immediately transported the injured subject to Scott County Memorial Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. Deputies requested assistance, and ISP detectives, troopers, and crime scene technicians responded to the scene.
Investigators are continuing the investigation; however, no arrests have been made at this time. Detectives do not believe there is any current danger to the public, and all involved individuals have been identified.
Authorities identified the deceased as 49-year-old Edward Milam Calton of Scottsburg. The family of the deceased has been notified.
This investigation is ongoing, and detectives will provide all information to the Scott County Prosecutor for review and any possible charges.
