Beshear: Most Kentucky Business Restrictions Could Be Lifted Before End of May

Even without the J&J vaccine, Beshear said that there is enough of Pfizer and Moderna to reach a new goal.

(Frankfort, Ky.) – COVID-19 restrictions on many Kentucky businesses and restaurants will be lifted weeks before anticipated if Kentuckians continue to fill all of the vaccination appointments available.

Governor Andy Beshear stated that a majority of restrictions could be lifted before the end of May.

Even without the J&J vaccine, Beshear said that there is enough of Pfizer and Moderna to reach a new goal. According to the governor, more than 1.6 million Kentuckians have received at least one dose of the vaccine.

“We have enough supply in what we have right now and what we will have over the next three weeks, to get to where it is theoretically possible we can reach it if we fill up every single appointment in the next three and a half to four weeks,” Beshear said.

Beshear’s timeline is linked to when the state would hit the mark he previously set at 2.5 million people with at least one shot.

The state reported 14 new virus-related deaths Wednesday and a positivity rate of 3.3%. There have been 6,285 deaths since the pandemic reached the state in March 2020.
