The revenue diversion activities were uncovered through new financial oversight measures.

(Florence, Ky.) – The City of Florence requested and has received approval from the Kentucky Department of Local Government for an extension of its annual audit submission.
The extension was requested by the City after it discovered revenue diversion activities within a specific revenue stream.
The revenue diversion activities were uncovered through new financial oversight measures implemented by Mayor Julie Aubuchon. The measure was put into place as part of reorganization of the Finance Department in 2025 following the departure of the City’s chief financial officer (CFO).
According to the City of Florence, the revenue diversion began prior to Mayor Aubuchon taking office in 2023. Once the issue was identified, the City immediately contacted the FBI and turned over all relevant information.
“Because this is an active federal criminal investigation, there are limits to what we can share,” said Mayor Aubuchon. “But it is important our residents know that it was the City that uncovered the revenue diversion, and it was the City that requested the federal investigation. Once the results of the FBI investigation are released, we will provide additional verified information in the spirit of transparency and accountability.”
