Without the support of our numerous sponsors, the firework show would not be possible.

(Madison, Ind) - The City of Madison is excited to officially announce our Independence Day Celebration. On Saturday, July 4th, the city will host the annual firework show at 10:00 p.m. on the Ohio River.

“Due to current circumstances, we will not have all the festivities that exemplify Madison’s Fourth of July weekend celebration; nevertheless, this event will be held in hopes of seeing the community come together to celebrate Madison and our patriotism for the United States,” said Mayor Bob Courtney.

Thank you, Commonwealth Engineers, Inc., Jacobi, Toombs, & Lanz, LLC., Eagle Hollow Marine Construction, German American Bank, Koehler Welding, Royer Corporation, Madison Precision Products, Morgan and Nay Funeral Centre, Riverboat Inn and Suites, LLC., and Mane Attractions Hair Salon for your generosity.

Starting at noon on July 4th, Vaughn Drive from Ferry Street to Vernon Street, West Street from Vaughn Dr. to W. First Street, and Central Ave from Vaughn Dr. to W. First Street will be closed to through traffic. This area will be reserved for pedestrians only. Broadway Street from Vaughn Drive to the Brown Gym will be closed starting at noon to through traffic and will be reserved as a golf cart parking only area.  Handicap parking will be reserved at the north end of Bicentennial Park. The city boat ramp will remain accessible until 5:00 p.m. At 5:00 p.m. the ramp will be closed until after the firework show.

“The city has been in constant communication with the governor’s office and the health department to discuss how we can best keep our community safe while still enjoying a July 4th celebration. By closing the entire riverfront to through traffic, our residents and visitors of Madison will have ample room to watch the firework show while remaining a safe distance from one another,” said Mayor Courtney.

While there are no plans for a parade or music in Bicentennial Park, our downtown businesses are working tirelessly to make the weekend a fun-filled celebration for the entire community and those visiting our beautiful city. “We hope that our residents and visitors will take advantage of everything our downtown businesses have to offer throughout the day,” said Mayor Courtney.

The City of Madison is taking extra precautions to ensure our community can safely enjoy this celebration by adding restrooms and handwashing stations along the entire riverfront and installing hand sanitizer stations along Main Street. Additional picnic tables will also be placed in our riverfront parks to allow for the community to enjoy carryout or picnics by the Ohio River. The community and visitors are encouraged to bring their lawn chairs, and coolers. We recommend leaving pets at home.

Please note that the firework show is contingent on the county entering Stage 5 of Governor Holcomb’s plans. On July 4th crowd restrictions are set to be lifted; however, social distancing guidelines should continue to be followed. Please stay with members of your household and remain considerate of others around you.
