COMMUNITY FOUNDATION ANNOUNCES NEW G1K PROGRAM COMPETITIVE GRANT CYCLE

Applications will be accepted thru April 30th

Madison, IN – The Community Foundation of Madison and Jefferson County, Inc. (CFMJC) announces that the G1K Program Competitive Grant Cycle will be accepting submissions in the month of April. Online applications will be accepted from Wednesday, April 1, 2026, until Thursday, April 30, 2026, at 5pm. This is a new grant opportunity that will annually award one large-scale grant to one nonprofit organization that serves the residents of Jefferson County, Indiana.

This competitive grant is made possible by the charter memberships collected for the new G1K program. Submitted applications will be reviewed by an independent, non-G1K member committee, which will narrow the field to fivefinalists. The collective G1K membership will vote and determine the final recipient. There will be approximately $70,000 available for the grant award. The selected organization will have 3 years to spend/complete the grant project.

In order to apply, organizations must meet the following eligibility criteria:
• Organization and its program must serve the residents of Jefferson County, Indiana
• Organization must be an IRS recognized 501(c)3 charity or a 509(a) organization (schools, government, hospitals, 
churches)

“I encourage the 501(c)3 and 509(a) organizations interested in applying to thoroughly review the information and eligibility for this specific process before submitting an application,” said Community Foundation Finance & Program Officer Kelly Miller, who oversees the G1K grants process. “Because this is a new grant opportunity, reviewing those items will help organizations determine if their project is a good fit for the grant dollars available. We are here and available to help applicants put their best foot forward.” Miller shared some tips when applying for grants:

-Do not wait until the last minute to submit your application
-Set a realistic timeline for and demonstrate sustainability of the project
-Include the estimated number of Jefferson County, Indiana residents that will be served by the project
-Break out the specific costs of the project: include pricing quotes and only show costs and data related to serving 
Jefferson County
-Make sure 100% of your Board of Directors contribute financially to your organization

Assets of the G1K program are held and maintained at CFMJC. Established in 1991 by a group of local volunteers, the Community Foundation of Madison and Jefferson County, Inc. fulfills the mission of building a strong, vibrant community by helping donors provide perpetual funding for the people, projects, and passions of Jefferson County. In the past 35 years, the Community Foundation has reinvested over $20 million dollars into the community through grants and scholarships.
