(INDIANAPOLIS) — Hoosiers can now get free vehicle history reports online, the Indiana Secretary of State’s Office announced Wednesday.
Individual reports from Experian AutoCheck typically cost $29.99 each, according to online automotive resource Edmunds.
The Secretary of State’s Office, in a news release, said it hopes the free service helps to protect consumers and enhance confidence in purchases of used vehicles. The reports generally include a summary of the vehicle’s ownership timeline, crash reports, service history, reported collisions or damage events, title issues, and odometer checks.
Indiana residents can access up to five free vehicle history reports per year.
The release did not say whether the service is costing Indiana taxpayers any money, only that the effort was a partnership with Experian.
Statement from Indiana Secretary of State Diego Morales
“This is about protecting Indiana consumers and promoting confidence in used vehicle purchases. We’re putting the power of data in the hands of the people—free of charge.”
