She has taught at Shawe Memorial for 25 years
Madison, IN, April 29, 2025 — Twenty-five year English teacher Mrs. Andie Martin was surprised in class this month as representatives from Ivy Tech in Madison presented her with the prestigious 2025 President’s Dual Credit Award. In Martin’s 25 year career, she has taught many students and has been an integral part of the partnership that Ivy Tech and Shawe Memorial have developed over the years.
Martin currently teaches six dual-credit courses at Shawe Memorial, which transfer to Ivy Tech and have helped put students on the right track for their post-high school education.
Martin was surprised in her AP English class by Andrea McDole, Executive Director of K-14 Initiatives and Troy Alvey, Dean of Arts, Sciences, and Education at Ivy Tech. In a statement, McDole had this to say about Martin:
"We received a significant number of outstanding nominations this year, showcasing the exceptional dedication of educators within our community. After careful consideration by the selection committee, we are absolutely delighted to inform you that Andie Martin has been chosen as this year's award recipient."
"Andie truly stood out amongst the impressive pool of nominees. Her commitment to always going above and beyond for her students is consistently evident. We were especially impressed by her initiative over the past year in adding numerous additional dual credit courses. She thoughtfully aligned these new offerings with the interests expressed by her students while also ensuring they were continually challenged with higher-level English coursework. This award is a recognition of her remarkable and longstanding commitment to dual credit and, most importantly, to her students' growth and success."
Martin will be honored at a special ceremony in Indianapolis later this year. Congratulations to Mrs. Andie Martin on her 2025 President’s Dual Credit Award!
