CARROLTON, Ky. (July 1, 2024) – The Kentucky State Police (KSP) Campbellsburg Post, Post 5, is investigating a shooting death that occurred in Carroll County on Saturday June 29.  Detectives responded to the scene and began an investigation.

Post 5 supervision was contacted by the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office on Saturday evening, at approximately 8:30 p.m., reporting that a shooting had occurred at a gun store located at 1496 Whites Run Rd. in Carroll County. Upon the arrival of KSP Post 5 personnel they located the victim inside the store undergoing treatment by EMS for a gunshot wound.

The preliminary investigation indicates that a customer in the store was viewing a firearm for sale and manipulating it when a single round discharged striking the victim, who was also in the store. Other store patrons immediately attempted life-saving measures.  The victim was transported to the hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

The victim is identified as Chad Wainscott, a 50 year old male from Worthville, KY.

The individual in physical control of the firearm at the time it discharged is cooperating with investigators, and witnesses at the scene have been interviewed. At this time, based on statements and evidence collected, no foul play is suspected. No charges are pending at this time and the investigation remains ongoing by Post 5 detectives.
