INDIANAPOLIS - A bill authored by State Sen. Jean Leising (R-Oldenburg) that encourages utility companies to use advanced transmissions was ceremonially signed into law by the governor today.

Senate Enrolled Act 422 makes advanced transmissions eligible for the same cost recovery that utilities already have for other transmission equipment. The bill also encourages utilities to consider advanced transmission technologies as part of their long-term plans submitted to the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission.

"Advanced transmissions can be added to existing electrical infrastructure like powerlines and help reduce congestion. These transmissions are more efficient and will help reduce electric bills for ratepayers," Leising said. "This legislation is a great step forward for improving our energy grid."
