(Lawrenceburg, Ind.) - Saturday, May 14 marks the 30th anniversary of the National Association of Letter Carriers Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive.

Each year on the second Saturday in May, letter carriers across the country collect non-perishable food donations. The donations go directly to local food pantries, shelters and churches to benefit area residents in need.

Over the past 29 years, the drive has collected over 1.88 billion pounds of food.

Participating in this year's Stamp Out Hunger food drive is simple. Just leave a non-perishable food donation in a bag by your mailbox on Saturday, May 14.

Currently, more than 42 million Americans are unsure where their next meal is coming from. More than 12 million are children who feel hunger's impact on their overall health and ability to perform in school, and nearly 5.2 million seniors over age 60 are food insecure.

"Letter carriers are a part of every neighborhood in the nation," NALC President Fredric Rolando said, "and we see the growing need for food assistance in our communities. On Saturday, May 14, NALC invites everyone to participate in the annual Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive. Together, we can help stamp out hunger in America."
