Madison doctor fired after patients allege sexual abuse during prostate, genital exams

State license suspended after several patients accused him of sexual misconduct and abuse.

A southern Indiana doctor was fired by Norton Healthcare and had his state license suspended after several patients accused him of sexual misconduct and abuse.

In a petition to the Medical Licensing Board of Indiana filed Feb. 12, the Indiana Attorney General's Office argued Dr. A. Michael Guirguis "represents a clear and immediate danger to the public health and safety if allowed to continue to practice."

Guirguis was a general internal medicine physician with Norton from 2008-25, according to his public LinkedIn page.

"It's sickening, and the public needs to be protected," Darryl Isaacs, founder of Isaacs & Isaacs Personal Injury Lawyers, which is representing multiple people in the case, said Thursday. "... He should not be allowed to practice again."

"The suspension of this medical license validates the courage of the men who have already stepped forward to share their experiences," Isaacs said in a news release Thursday. "While this is a significant legal milestone, our focus remains steadfast on those who were harmed. We are dedicated to ensuring that those whose privacy and dignity were violated have a powerful voice and a clear path toward justice."

According to the petition, Guirguis is accused of:

• Watching a patient ejaculate in order to provide a semen sample
• Grabbing a patient's penis during a prostate exam
• Telling a patient he needed to perform a "stretch test" and then grabbing his penis, tugging it back and forth
• Spending approximately 10 minutes on a genital examination
• Using more than one finger to perform rectal and prostate examinations
• Failing to tell some patients he was about to insert his finger into their rectums
• Failing to wear gloves during genital and/or prostate exams

In December, according to the petition, Norton terminated Guirguis due to "grossly unprofessional conduct."

The state board agreed to suspend his license for 90 days.

"We will not sleep until the very last person who was harmed gets the justice that they are looking for," said Joseph Wade, an attorney at Isaacs & Isaacs.
