Has prior felony convictions for dealing

Jefferson County, Indiana (April 18, 2022) - Jeremy “Cup” Edward Oliver Pursley, 44, was sentenced to 12 years on a charge of dealing in methamphetamine, a Level 2 felony, in Jefferson Circuit Court Friday afternoon, said Jefferson County Prosecutor David R. Sutter.

Pursley had previously entered a plea agreement on the charge.

He was sentenced to 12 years in the Indiana Dept. of Correction with two years suspended to probation.

Prosecutor Sutter said making headway against illegal drugs requires a team approach and stressed that was what happened in this case.

“I want to thank Detective Mark Jenkins for the time and effort he put into this investigation,” said Prosecutor Sutter. “This arrest was the result of a collaborative effort between the Indiana State Police, Jefferson County Sheriff’s Dept., Switzerland County Sheriff’s Dept., Jennings County Sheriff’s Dept. and the Jefferson County Prosecutor’s Office. It’s a great example of interaction between several different law enforcement agencies.”

The case began in the fall of 2020 when Pursley entered a deal to sell methamphetamine. Law enforcement learned of Pursley as he is a known drug dealer in the Jefferson County area.

A controlled buy was arranged with Pursley being given $600 in advance to purchase the methamphetamine. He left his unit in the Dover Apartments and traveled to another residence to purchase the drug.

He returned, going back to his apartment to weigh the methamphetamine, and then delivering it to the customer. Police were able to obtain video surveillance of Pursley smoking meth and with a large amount of cash lying nearby.

 Pursley was arrested soon thereafter.

Pursley has prior felony convictions for dealing in a Schedule I, II or III controlled substance and unlawful possession or use of a legend drug.

“This was a solid case that removed a known drug dealer from the streets for a long time,” said Prosecutor Sutter. “The citizens of Jefferson County are safer due to this effort.”
