Shooting remains under investigation
Jefferson County, Indiana — The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating a shooting that occurred Saturday, June 28, 2025. At approximately 7:58 AM, Jefferson County Central Dispatch received a 911 call reporting a male subject had sustained a gunshot wound.
Officers from the City of Madison Police Department, Deputies with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, and Troopers from the Indiana State Police promptly responded to the scene.
Upon arrival, Deputies located an adult male victim in the front yard of a residence. The victim appeared to have sustained a single gunshot wound.
Deputies rendered immediate medical aid before the victim was transported to Norton King’s Daughters’ Hospital in Madison, Indiana. He was later airlifted to the University of Louisville Hospital for further treatment. His condition is not being released currently.
The homeowner briefly barricaded herself inside the home and did not come outside the home as directed by officers on scene. After a brief conversation with the homeowner and Deputies on scene, she exited her home and was detained by officers without incident.
As part of the ongoing investigation, the homeowner, Cara Ross, is currently in custody and facing preliminary charges of Criminal Recklessness with a Firearm. No further details will be released at this stage in order to preserve the integrity of the investigation.
