Man Arrested For Public Nudity, Public Intoxication in Scott Co.

(Scottsburg, Ind.) - On July 5, at approximately 11:52 p.m. officers Greg Green and Ryen Ware were dispatched to the area of U.S. 31 and Cope Lane in reference to a naked male approaching vehicles on the roadway.

Upon the arrival of officers, they observed a nude male standing on to of the Scott County Health Departments Dodge Durango.  

The male then began stomping on the hood of the vehicle yelling at officers to shoot him. Officers produced their tasers and ordered the male off of the vehicle.

Officers attempted to place the suspect into custody at which time he began to forcefully resist. 

Scott County Sheriff's Department Deputy Johnny Coomer arrived on the scene and attempted to help place the suspect into handcuffs. 

After several minutes of struggling to apprehend the man, he was taken to to the Scott County Emergency Room and identified at Austin Copeland of Jackson, Michigan. 

Copeland later stated to officers that he was tripping on LSD and did not know what happened. 

Deputy Coomer was bitten by the suspect on his leg and later treated at the ER for his injuries. 

Copeland was charged with Battery- Results in Bodily Injury to Public Safety Official, Resisting Law Enforcement, Disorderly Conduct, Public Nudity, and Public Intoxication. 

Copeland is innocent until proven guilty in the court of law.
