Motorcycle With No Registration Leads To Arrest

July 27, 2021, Madison Police arrested Ernest V. McKeand 48, Madison, Indiana, for operating a vehicle W/O a license class A misdemeanor and auto theft / possession of stolen property L-6 felony.

Patrolman Josh Nolan was on patrol in the Madison Police Golf Cart when he observed a motorcycle traveling West on Fifth Street, toward Springdale Cemetery. Officer Nolan noted the motorcycle had no visible registration and stopped the motorcycle near the entrance of the cemetery.  Nolan noted the motorcycle had recently been spray painted a different color.  A subsequent check of the motorcycle's vehicle identification number revealed the bike had been reported stolen out of the State of Georgia. 

McKeand was taken into custody without incident, and charged with the offenses stated above.  The MPD golf cart is equipped with emergency red and blue lights.

Officer Nolan was assisted by Officers Shelpman, Heaton, Midgett & Demaree.  Ernest V. McKeand has the presumption of innocence until otherwise proven guilty.
