Pennington Named Interim Parks Director For The City of Madison

Pennington will be focusing on completing a parks improvement plan, operational assessment, organization realignment, and program evaluation.

(Madison, Ind.) – Mayor Bob Courtney is working to implement changes within the City of Madison Parks Department to revamp programs and to restructure the department.

On Monday, May 11, Madison native, Seth Pennington, will begin his new role as the City of Madison Interim Parks Director. Pennington will be working alongside the parks staff, City Parks Board and the mayor to provide leadership until a permanent director is hired.

Pennington will be focusing on completing a parks improvement plan, operational assessment, organization realignment, and program evaluation.

“The City of Madison Parks Department plays a significant role in the quality of life here in Madison. Our inventory of parks, playgrounds, athletic facilities, biking trails, and golf course are significant assets to build our new programming initiatives. Seth will bring a new and positive energy to our Parks Department and the remaining staff will play an invaluable role in this restructuring,” said Mayor Courtney.

Pennington is a 2012 graduate of Madison Consolidated High School where he currently serves as the Varsity Boys’ Assistant Coach. Growing up he participated in many sports, and in high school, he was a part of the varsity basketball team. Pennington also worked as an umpire and field maintenance staff member for the City Parks Department while in high school.

Upon graduating college, he worked for the Indiana Senate where he staffed various committees that focused on state parks and rural community development.

“I love Madison. When my fiancé and I moved back last year, we decided we would take any opportunity to serve the community that has offered so much to us. We both work jobs where we could live anywhere in the country, but we choose to be here due to the quality of life and great people surrounding us. I am excited about this opportunity to give back to the Parks Department and the City of Madison,” said Pennington.
