The Shrewsbury-Windle House is imbued with musical tradition, and Historic Madison looks forward to welcoming musicians to the house once more. The Shrewsbury family hosted an orchestra for their 1849 housewarming party, and that tradition of live music continued with John and Ann Windle, who invited musician friends to the home many times. HMI is proud to carry on the musical legacy of the house with a trio of musicians: Carolyn Dutton, William Lancton, and Scott Pazera, whose brief biographies are included below.

A resident of Nashville, IN, Carolyn Dutton received a BA degree in music from Western College/Miami University and a Master's degree in jazz studies from Indiana University's Jacobs School of Music. She lived in New York City for 35 years, where she performed and recorded with numerous rock, swing, jazz, folk, and bluegrass groups and played for numerous on and off-Broadway productions. She currently plays throughout the state with her gypsy swing band, Bleu Django, as well as the Steve Houk Blues Band.

Bill Lancton is a guitar player’s guitar player. He grew up in the New York City area and has been a professional musician his entire life, playing guitar for a number of different bands from jazz to rock, and even reggae! In 1973, he settled in the Indianapolis area, where his prowess as a jazz guitarist blossomed and grew. In 2005, Bill was inducted into the Indianapolis Jazz Hall of Fame, the second guitarist to ever earn the honor. For many years, Bill has been a regular at the Jazz Kitchen, hosting the Indy Guitar Summit and playing many jazz tributes to Santana, among others. He has several albums under his belt, which accompany his decades of experience playing all over the country and the world. He moved to Madison, IN, in 2014 but continues to return to play for audiences throughout Indianapolis and Madison.

Scott Pazera has been working as a performer, clinician, adjudicator, director, and instructor since the 1990s throughout the Midwest. He has performed and recorded within a variety of musical genres, including artists such as Veruca Salt, Nash Kato, Rich Little, Charlie Hunter, Med Flory, Fareed Haque, Bernie Worrell, Rachel Yamagata, and many others. Scott is the current Jazz Ensemble Director at Wabash College and the previous Director and Clinical Professor at Purdue University. He is the President and Artistic Director of the Jazz Club in Lafayette, IN, which is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization whose mission is to bring the truly unique American art form of Jazz to the immediate community. The organization provides concerts, jam sessions, and other opportunities to foster the growth of jazz within the community. Scott maintains a private teaching studio roster. He also maintains involvement in his local community by directing the jazz combos at Lafayette Jefferson High School in Lafayette, IN. Whether teaching, performing, or directing, Scott is always there to share his love and enjoyment of creating music with others.

Registration is required for all sessions. Please contact Jessica Spiess at Historic Madison, Inc. at 812-265-2967 or programs@historicmadisoninc.com if you have any questions.
