(Jefferson County, IN) - Indiana Department of Transportation contractor GeoSpecialties is continuing slide repair work on State Road 56 between Madison and Brooksburg in Jefferson County. S.R. 56 remains closed as work is in progress.

The closure is located on S.R. 56 between North Bee Camp Road and North Shirks Hollow Road. S.R. 56 is expected to reopen in early August, weather permitting. S.R. 56 was previously scheduled to reopen in late June. The schedule has been modified due to weather conditions and additional necessary slide repair work on S.R. 56.

The official detour route for this project follows U.S. 421 to S.R. 129 to S.R. 56. Initial project information can be found here. Please note the change in detour and expected reopening date.

This work is part of an emergency repair contract awarded to GeoSpecialties in April 2025. INDOT reminds drivers to slow down, use extra caution, and avoid distractions when traveling in and near work zones. All work is weather-dependent and schedules are subject to change.
