Intended to help improve safety

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ind. - The Indiana Department of Transportation is scheduled to reduce the speed limit on State Road 256 on or after Monday, May 12, in Jefferson County.

The speed limit will decrease from 55 mph to 45 mph on S.R. 256 from State Road 3 to State Road 56. The existing 40 mph speed limit through Kent will not change. The reduced speed limit is intended to help improve safety along S.R. 256.

INDOT reminds drivers to slow down, use extra caution and avoid distractions when traveling in and near work zones. All work is weather-dependent and schedules are subject to change.
