Jerry Bomholt Resigns As Southwestern Boys Basketball Coach

Two games left in regular season

For Immediate Release:

 

On Wednesday, February 19 Coach Jerry Bomholt rendered his resignation as Boys’ Basketball Coach at Southwestern High School, effectively immediately. At no time was Coach Bomholt asked by Southwestern administration to resign, but made that decision of his own volition.

Southwestern Schools would like to thank Coach Jerry Bomholt for his eleven (11) years of coaching service at Southwestern and wish him the best of luck in all future endeavors.

At the time of this release, Mr. Bomholt was expected to stay on as a teacher at Southwestern.

This morning faculty and staff received a message from Jerry Bomholt:

 

Southwestern is currently 14-7 on the season with two games left before sectional. Assistant coach Zac Nussbaum takes over as interim head coach. Nussbaum is also the head Cross Country and Track & Field Coach at Southwestern.

Bomholt in 11 seasons with the Rebels was 164-95. He took Southwestern to the 2A State Finals in 1998 his first season with the Rebels. At Southwestern, the Rebels have three sectional titles including the last two years. After leaving Southwestern in 2003, Jerry went to Shawe where he was 135-73 taking the Hilltoppers to four sectional titles.

Bomholt in 39 years has won 549 and lost 344 and is the 9th current winningest boys basketball coach in Indiana and 22nd all-time.

Rebels will play at Scottsburg on Saturday and close out the regular season on February 28th at home against South Dearborn. Rebels will also host the sectional.
