18 Year Old Bike Rider Has Died In Hit And Run Accident

UPDATED RELEASE FROM SHERIFF WALLACE 1:38pm 5/28/2018:  

May 27, 2018, @ approximately 3:30AM Jefferson County Sheriff Deputies responded to a report of bicyclist that had been struck by a vehicle in the 3000 block of North US #421 in Madison, Indiana.  Upon arrival officers located an unresponsive male in the roadway.  From the initial investigation, it appears the bicyclist was traveling up the hill (north) when struck from behind by a vehicle that left the scene. 

 

The victim, later identified as Grant Adams 18, Madison, Indiana, was transported to KDH-ER and later flown to the University of Louisville Hospital, where he died from his injuries. 

 

The driver of the vehicle, Nicholas A. Griffin 25, Madison, came forwarded and contacted law enforcement on May 27, 2018 around 2:30.  Griffin was arrested on a preliminary alleged charge of LEAVING THE SCENE OF AN ACCIDENT RESULTING IN DEATH – Level 5 Felony.

 

Deputy Bradley Demaree is leading the investigation with the assistance of the Indiana State Police.

 

UPDATED RELEASE:  18 year old Grant Adams that was struck by the vehicle that left the scene Sunday morning passed away.

We encourage the person who left the scene to turn themselves in as soon as possible.

FIRST RELEASE:  At approximately 3:45am on May 27, 2018 the Jefferson County Sheriffs Department responded to a serious personal injury accident on US 421 between Old SR 62 and the roundabout in the Northbound lane.

Deputies arrived and found a bicyclist had been struck by a vehicle that had fled the scene. The bicyclist was transported for treatment of his injuries and was in serious condition.
