Annual Ohio River Sweep Is This Saturday

All along the Ohio River

Since 1989, this award-winning cleanup for the Ohio River and its tributaries brings thousands of volunteers to the riverbanks to remove tons of trash and debris. River Sweep encompasses the entire length of the river, from its origin in Pittsburgh, PA to its end in Cairo, IL, including nearly 3,000 miles of shoreline and many tributaries.

The Ohio River Sweep is an event organized by the Ohio River Valley Water Sanitation Commission, an interstate water pollution agency for the Ohio River Valley, along with environmental protection and natural resource agencies from Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky, West Virginia, and Pennsylvania.

Madison will be a Sweep location starting at the foot of Mulberry Street at Vaughn Drive from 8 to 11:30am. Contact Stephanie Hellmann at 812-265-3264

    Sentry Services, a program within LifeTime Resources, is excited to be able to offer the Volunteer Advocates for Seniors or Incapacitated Adult program in Jefferson County (VASIA). We are actively seeking local, caring, and compassionate people willing to give their time to help seniors or incapacitated adults have a greater quality of life. There are many different ways to serve as a VASIA volunteer: Visit clients at least once a month Accompany clients to medical appointments Send "thinking of you" cards Assist with applying for and maintaining benefits Support the program and staff by providing clerical support When you volunteer for the VASIA program, you will receive training on the role of an advocate and resources to assist the client as well as continued support and assistance of our processional staff.
