Bedford Man Accused of Leading KSP on 15-Mile Chase

(Bedford, Ky.) - Kentucky State Police say a man who had warrants of for his arrest led officers on a fifteen-mile chase, endangering the lives of motorists and even causing one motorcyclist off the road. 

Court documents state that yesterday around 7 p.m. a KSP trooper had conducted a traffic stop on 42-year-old Michael Durham when the trooper told him about the warrants he had against him, he sped off. 

WDRB reported that Durham then refused to stop for the police weaving in and out of traffic and ignored stops signs. He allegedly got up to 86 mph in a 55 mph zone, driving recklessly for 15 miles. 

Durham allegedly ran a motorcyclist off the roadway as well. 

Police say Durham eventually pulled onto his property on Harley Lane, in Bedford, where he exited his vehicle and began to run. The trooper then fired a taser, which stunned Durham. 

The arrest report states Durham initially refused to put his hands behind his back and reached for the troopers taser. WDRB reported the trooper then "delivered a cool hand strike to his arm and face," before Durham finally put his hands behind his back. 

Durham allegedly amitted to not having insurance on his truck and admitted to smoking marijuana just before driving. 

He was arrested on the charge of fleeing or evading police in a motor vehicle, speeding 26 mph or more above the speed limit, reckless driving, third-degree assault of a police or probation officer, first-degree wanton endangerment, resisting arrest, and operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol or drugs. 

Durham is currently in the Oldham County Detention Center.
