City Announces Captain Dan Stephan as Grand Marshall for 4th of July Parade

Madison, IN— The City of Madison announced today Captain D. J. Stephan as the Grand Marshall of our Annual July 4th Parade brought to you by German American Bank. Captain Stephan has been a prominent member of our Madison Police Department (MPD) for over 45 years and will officially retire from office on November 5, 2021. Beginning his career with MPD in August of 1976, Dan “D.J.” Stephan served the citizens of Madison and rose through the department ranks to his final promotion to Captain on July 9, 2000. Throughout his many years in the MPD, Captain Stephan served his department in many ways, from serving as a firearms instructor and winning several “top gun” awards in competitions to working at 44 City of Madison parades. Captain Stephan has also been an active member in the Canaan area as a farmer and is a beloved grandfather. "Following his 45 years and three months of serving the citizens of Madison, Indiana, Captain Dan Stephan is Madison's longest serving merit police officer, and we are proud to have him on our police force. His fellow MPD officers will greatly miss him," said Chief of Police John Wallace. "We are honored to have Captain Stephan as our Grand Marshall for this year's parade and appreciate his dedication to the police department and the community here in Madison," said Mayor Bob Courtney. The parade, brought to you by German American Bank, will kick off on July 2nd at 7:00 p.m. along Main Street. The parade balloons and helium are sponsored by Jacobi, Toombs & Lanz, Madison Precision Products, Kings Daughters Health, Royer Corporation. Community sponsors are as follows; Clifty Warehouse, Hos Coffee, Mary's Shear Perfection, NxGen Insurance, Exterior Pro Roofing, Madtown Liquors, Hair Essentials II, Madison Magnolia Cottages, Kasper Insurance, and Steinhardt Heating & Air Conditioning.
