City of Madison To Use Community Crossing Grant For Temporary Fix of Main Street

The City of Madison was awarded $343,032.46.

(Madison, Ind.) - The City of Madison has been awarded a Community Crossings Grant that will be used for a temporary fix of Jefferson Street to the top of State Road 56.

During Tuesday’s City Council meeting, it was announced by Chief of Staff Mindy McGee that the city has taken ownership of State Road 56 and that the funds awarded by the Community Crossings Grant will be used as a life extender of the road until 2026.

The City of Madison was awarded $343,032.46.

The City is currently in the process of applying for a grant from the Indiana Department of Transportation that will be up to $5 million that will be used for the 4.4 miles of State Road 56 in Jefferson County.

“This will also allow us to get a look at what a temporary redesign of the road as well before we put money into the full redesign,” stated McGee.
