(Jennings County, Ind.) - Early Sunday morning, Detectives with the Indiana State Police and Jennings County Sheriff’s Office began investigating the death of a North Vernon, Indiana man after a house fire was reported in northern Jennings County.

At approximately 7:30 am today, the Jennings County Sheriff’s Office received calls of a house on fire in the 4500 Block of North County Road 350 West (Geneva Road), just off of State Road 7 in Queensville in Jennings County.  Deputies from the sheriff’s office as well as officers from the North Vernon Police Department arrived within minutes and attempted to gain access to the smoke filled residence after receiving reports that the home may still be occupied.

Firefighters from the Scipio-Geneva Township Fire Department arrived shortly after and extinguished the blaze which was made challenging due to the cold temperatures.  Firefighters soon located the deceased body of an adult male in the residence.  The Jennings County Coroner’s Office arrived and identified the deceased male as Kody A. Perry, age 33, who resided at the residence.

Detectives and crime scene investigators with the Indiana State Police were called to conduct a joint investigation with detectives from the Jennings County Sheriff’s Office.  The Indiana State Fire Marshal’s Office will work to determine the cause of the fire.

The investigation remains ongoing at this time.  An autopsy will be conducted to attempt to determine a manner and cause of death.
