The investigation is continuing.

(Seymour, Ind.) - On September 24, 2020, Investigators with the Seymour Police Department and Seymour Community School Resource Officers began an investigation involving a now, former teacher and a now, former Seymour High School student. The investigation involved an inappropriate relationship while the former teacher was employed with the school and while the former student was enrolled in school. The relationship allegedly resulted in the birth of a child. The investigation began following disruptions at the school when the former student gave birth to a child on September 21, 2020.

Investigators conducted interviews and obtained Jackson Superior Court 1 Search Warrants to examine cell phone activity and to obtain known DNA standards of all parties involved. This included the former teacher, the former student, and the child born to the former student. The DNA standards were then forwarded to the Indiana State Police Lab for paternity examination.

The results of the paternity tests were received on November 13, 2020. On November 17, 2020, and based on the results of the paternity tests, Investigators with the Seymour Police Department with the assistance of the Shelby County Sheriff Department arrested Todd A. Weaver age 50 of Waldron, Indiana on one count of child seduction a level 5 felony. The child seduction charge stems from Weaver being in a position of authority as a teacher, and him having an inappropriate relationship with a student who was under the age of eighteen. Weaver was transported to the Jackson County Jail and remanded for processing.

When the disruptions began to occur at Seymour High School, Seymour Community School Administration Officials and Seymour High School Officials took immediate action, by placing Weaver on administrative leave pending the outcome of an internal and criminal investigation. The immediate action by Seymour Community School Administration Officials and Seymour High School Officials protected students, faculty, and staff, so learning could continue in a safe environment without further disruptions. While on administrative leave and before he was arrested, Weaver resigned his position as a teacher and as the wrestling coach at Seymour High School. The investigation is continuing.
