Deadline is Dec 31 to switch

FRANKFORT, Ky. (KT) – The deadline is rapidly approaching for voters in Kentucky to update their political party registration to be eligible to vote in their new party’s primary election on May 17, 2022.
Secretary of State Michael Adams says the deadline to switch party affiliation is coming up at the close of business Friday to be able to participate in the May primary. The good news is, you don’t have to go to your county clerk’s office any more to have it done
“If you are currently a registered voter and want to vote in a political party’s primary election next May, by law, you must be registered to vote in that party by this Friday, Dec. 31,” Adams said. “Anyone wishing to update party affiliation, or any other voter information, can visit sos.ky.gov, click on ‘Elections’ and select ‘Register to Vote.’”
Adams notes that during the two regular sessions of the General Assembly since he took office in 2020, he has asked legislators to extend the party-switch deadline to closer to the primary election date. However, even though he is of the same party as the supermajority Republicans in the two chambers, no action has been taken on the request.
