(Carroll County, Ky.) - Carroll County Schools announced today that a gun was found on school property.
The school released the following statement regarding the incident:
At approximately 10:21 AM the School Resource Officer was notified by High School cafeteria workers that there was a handgun in the rear of the school. The reporting officer then responded with school staff and located a 22 LR pistol that was loaded and hanging on a tree branch.
The location of the tree is directly in the rear of the cafeteria, next to the greenhouses in the rear of the school. The Resource Officer then unloaded and safely secured the weapon. The weapon was transported to Police Headquarters and secured in evidence.
Carroll County Schools have received no threats or any other indication of intent. At no time was any staff member nor on-campus students in any imminent danger. Carroll County High School, the Area Technology Center, and Cartmell Elementary School have all been notified and are currently taking all necessary precautions to ensure the safety of all school staff and students currently on school property.
