(Madison, Ind.) - Historic Madison, Inc. honored volunteers at its annual Volunteer Recognition Night at the Shrewsbury-Windle House on January 17.

Over 30 attendees gathered as President and Executive Director John Staicer thanked Historic Madison’s volunteers. “Historic Madison, Inc. celebrates all its volunteers for their help in making 2024 a great year. HMI would not be able to fulfill its mission without the help of our great group of volunteers.” HMI volunteers gave more than 1925 hours of service equaling more than $64,500 in impact.

This year HMI honored its volunteers with four awards. The HMI Board Member of the Year is Heidi Kendall-Sage for her support and service to HMI. All HMI board members volunteer their time to support the organization and its mission. Beyond board members, HMI has an active group of volunteers who focus on tours and programs with the public.

Bill Jewell was recognized for his work doing just that as the HMI Volunteer of the Year. Bill is an experience maker who provided tours at the Schroeder Saddletree Factory Museum to groups of all ages and sizes. He worked nearly every week it was open from April through October. Because of his help and the many other volunteers at the Schroeder Saddletree Factory Museum,

HMI welcomed over 1,100 visitors to the site in 2024. Other volunteers received recognition for volunteering more than 25 hours by receiving the Star Award. Ten volunteers received the Super Star Award after volunteering more than 50 hours of service in 2024. HMI appreciates every hour given in service, and thanks all HMI volunteers especially those who were unable to attend the recognition night.
