House On Main Street Total Loss In Early Morning Fire

Fire Is Under Investigation

This morning around 4:00 am Madison City Fire Units responded to the 1000 block of West Main Street for a structure on fire when crews arrived they found smoke in the area and the structure had flames showing from the basement and main levels crews worked to control the fire to avoid it spreading to roof but the fire got into the walls and made it's way to the roof where it broke thru and the structure became fully engulfed. Crews worked for nearly 5 hours bringing the fire under control. Madison Twp and Rykers Ridge were summoned for mutual aid to help with manpower, After nearly 9 hrs crews cleared the scene but some of the firefighters were stationed at the structure to do firewatch for 24 hrs. The structure is a total loss and the cause of the fire is under investigation. All City of Madison Fire Apparatus were on scene along with Madison Twp and Rykers Ridge along with Vectron and Duke Energy responded. The occupants of the house got out safe and a few possessions were salvaged from the fire.
