Ryan Uopasarn was sentenced for murder and mutilating animals earlier this year.

(Vevay, Ind.) – The Indiana Court of Appeals has affirmed Ryan Uopasarn’s murder conviction and four counts of torturing and mutilating animals.
Ryan Uopasarn, 32, of Vevay, was convicted in January for the murder of his father, Sulasak “Mike” Uopasarn and mutilation of Mike’s four small dog.
The incident took place March 29, 2025, at a home in Vevay.
Investigators say Uopasarn stabbed his father over 25 times with a butcher knife.
Uopasarn was sentenced to the maximum sentence of 67.5-year sentence. He appealed the decision, but the Court of Appeals rejected his claims of insanity, improper instruction and excessive punishment.
A three-judge panel found no evidence to support Uopasarn's insanity claim. They also cited the unprovoked nature of the killing, the extreme violence and Uopasarn's lack of remorse and continued violent conduct while awaiting trial.
