On Thursday, August 17, 2025, Indiana State Police Superintendent Anthony Scott promoted two from the Sellersburg District to the rank of First Sergeant within their respective commands. Detective Robert M. Bennett has been promoted to the rank of First Sergeant and will now serve as the Investigative Commander for the Sellersburg District. Sergeant Andrew Taylor was promoted to First Sergeant and will serve as the Sellersburg District Assistant Commander. An official promotion ceremony recognizing both men and other recently promoted officers was held on Thursday, August 21, 2025, in Indianapolis.
First Sergeant Bennett graduated from Jasper High School in 1994 and earned a bachelor’s degree in criminology from Indiana State University. After graduating from the 57th Indiana State Police Recruit Academy, Bennett was assigned to the Sellersburg post, where he worked as a patrol officer and member of the department's SCUBA team before transferring to the Drug Enforcement Section, where he served as the Marijuana Eradication Coordinator and later as an undercover detective for approximately 12 years. In 2022, he transitioned to a field investigations detective role, leading to his current leadership position.
First Sergeant Bennett resides with his wife, Nancy, and their children in Washington County.
First Sergeant Andrew Taylor is a 2008 graduate from Xavier High School in Louisville, Kentucky, and a 2012 graduate from Indiana University in Bloomington with a degree in criminal justice. In 2014, Taylor graduated from the 73rd Indiana State Police Recruit Academy and was initially assigned to the Pendleton Post. Taylor transferred to the Sellersburg Post in 2015, where he served as a field training officer and SCUBA team member in addition to his patrol duties on Sellersburg’s All-Crimes Policing squad. Andrew Taylor was promoted to Sergeant and Crime Scene Investigator within the Forensic Services Division in 2022 until his recent promotion.
First Sergeant Andrew Taylor resides in Clark County with his wife, Jacy, and son Hayes.
