Inmate found unresponsive.

Columbus-Yesterday, June 6, 2021, the Indiana State Police was requested by the Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Department to conduct an investigation into the death of an inmate at the Bartholomew County Jail.
The investigation began shortly after 6:00 pm when a male inmate was found unresponsive in the jail. The inmate was provided with medical care and transported to Columbus Regional Hospital where he was then pronounced deceased.
Detectives from the Indiana State Police-Versailles Post were requested to lead the investigation which is normal practice when a death occurs inside a correctional facility.
The inmate has been identified as Gregory A. Leonard, age 47, Columbus, Indiana. Leonard’s family has been notified.
At this time, the investigation is ongoing. Due to the investigation being conducted by Indiana State Police Detectives, the Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Department will not be commenting on the case.
