(Jefferson County, Ind.) - At the Jefferson County Commissioners meeting on Friday, April 3 they announced that Jefferson County Property Taxes will be sent out today Monday, April 6.

One topic that they brought up when discussing the payment of property taxes was residents who would like to pay with cash.

At this time the courthouse is closed due to the coronavirus pandemic, and the dropboxes outside the courthouse should not be used for cash transactions. This then leaves those residents with few options on how to pay their property taxes.

There were a few suggestions made in order to assist those who wish to pay in cash, such as scheduling an appointment with the courthouse to drop your payment off in person.

County Treasurer Melinda Klopp also suggested those who which to pay in cash, use the drive-through banking lanes at either German American Bank or Farmers Bank of Milton, just remember to bring your bill with you. Or residents can also use the banks to convert their cash into a money order that can then safely be dropped off at the courthouse dropboxes.

Residents can mail their payments using money orders, or personal checks to the treasurer's office at:

Jefferson County Treasurer

Other options are to pay online via credit card or eCheck at www.jeffersoncounty.in.gov/286/treasurer there will be a 2.5 percent handling fee added to these charges.
