According to Safe Haven, there are currently 48 Safe Haven Baby Boxes in Indiana.

(Madison, Ind.) - King’s Daughters’ Health is pleased to announce a partnership with Safe Haven Baby Boxes and The Madison Mission to provide a new, last-resort option for women in crisis. The Madison Mission is a local group of private supporters who are providing the Safe Haven Baby Box for KDH. Further details will be available soon.

“I am so happy to hear that KDH and Safe Haven Baby Boxes have come to an agreement in the community to save lives together,” said Monica Kelsey, CEO and Founder of Safe Haven.

A Safe Haven Baby Box is a safety device provided for under Indiana’s Safe Haven Law that legally permits a mother in crisis to safely, securely, and anonymously surrender her baby if she is unable to care for the newborn. In most cases, the Baby Box is installed on an exterior wall at a designated fire station or hospital. It has an exterior door that automatically locks upon placement of a newborn inside the Baby Box, and an interior door that allows a medical staff member to secure the surrendered newborn from inside the designated building. According to Safe Haven, there are currently 48 Safe Haven Baby Boxes in Indiana.

Since Jefferson County borders Kentucky, women in crisis in neighboring Kentucky counties will have access to the Safe Haven Baby Box in Madison. Kentucky does not currently have a Safe Haven law.
