Kentucky State Police Investigate Fatal Collision in Henry County

Crash remains under investigation

                                        

CAMPBELLSBURG, Ky. (05/23/2023) – On Tuesday May 23, 2023 at approximately 4:43 pm Kentucky State Police Post 5 in Campbellsburg received calls in reference to a collision on Interstate 71.  It was reported that the collision occurred near the 26 mile marker of I71 southbound in Henry County.  

The preliminary investigation indicates that a commercial vehicle was stopped due to other stopped traffic on I71 near the 26 mile marker when a passenger vehicle which was traveling south on Interstate 71 did not stop in time to avoid striking the commercial vehicle in the rear.  

The operator of the passenger vehicle, Melvin McCoy of Louisville, was pronounced deceased on scene by the Henry County Coroner. Next of kin has been notified.  There were no other passengers in the vehicle.  

The operator and only occupant of the commercial vehicle was uninjured.  

The Kentucky State Police Post 5 is conducting the ongoing investigation.  KSP was assisted on scene by Henry County EMS, Henry County Coroner,  Lake Jericho Fire Department, and Campbellsburg Fire Department.
