Life of Scipio Man Claimed Following Accident On State Road 3

Further investigation found that at the time of the accident that Bertram was under the influence of alcohol.

(Jennings County, Ind.) - Jennings County Deputies responded to the report of a two-vehicle crash on Saturday, November 7 on State Road 3 that lead to the death of a Scipio man.

Upon the arrival of Jennings County Deputies, it was determined that a black Ram truck being driven by 26-year-old Leroy Bertram Jr., of North Vernon has collided with a black Nissan sedan that was being driven by 46-year-old Francis “Kyle” Loper, of Scipio.

Further investigation found that at the time of the accident that Bertram was under the influence of alcohol.

Francis Loper was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The female passenger in Loper’s vehicle, Michelle Loper, 33 of Scipio was flown to St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis for treatment of injuries sustained in the accident.

A female passenger that was in Bertram’s vehicle, Hailey Edmondson, 23 of Vernon, was taken to St. Vincent Hospital in Jennings County for her injuries and was later flown to St. Vincent in Indianapolis.

Bertram was placed under arrest for operating a vehicle while intoxicated causing death.

None of the occupants in the crash were believed to be wearing seat belts at the time of the crash.
