Madison Man Behind Bars On Drug Charges

Previously felony conviction for possession and forgery charges

                                                                     

A traffic stop involving a known traffic offender resulted in drug charges and the seizure of multiple baggies of methamphetamine and an electronic scale.

Madison Police Officer Curtis Shelpman was patrolling on the Hilltop around 1 a.m. on Tuesday Nov 22 when he observed a vehicle driven by Jennifer Renecker whom was known to have a suspended driver's license. After confirming the suspension he stopped the vehicle and a passenger in the vehicle identified as 57 YO James Earl Turner appeared to be concealing items in a backpack.

While the MPD officer was issuing a warning citation to Renecker, JCSO Deputy Laura Pickel arrived at the stop with her K9 and during an open air sniff around the vehicle the K9 alerted to presence of narcotics.

A search of the vehicle led officers to find two backpacks that belonged to Turner were located and police found multiple baggies of methamphetamine and scales consistent with drug sales, More narcotics were located on Turner.

He was charged with Dealing in Methamphetamine,a Level 3 felony, along with Possession of Marijuana misdemeanor, and Poss of Paraphernalia misdemeanor 

He is lodged in the Jefferson County Jail on a $20,000 cash along with a 15 day hold
