Madison Woman Arrested on Attempted Murder Charge

No connection between the victim and assailant

                                      

On August 11, 2023, @ approximately 4:20 PM Madison Police responded to 706 Presbyterian Ave, reference a reported disturbance.  Upon arrival, responding officers discovered that the occupant of the Presbyterian Ave. residence and been stabbed multiple times.  The eighty-five-year-old victim was conscious and stated to officers that an unknown female entered her residence and stabbed her “all over”.  The victim was assaulted while sitting in her chair and had multiple stab wounds to her chest and arms.  

Responding Officers, Captain Ben McKay, Sergeant William Watterson, and Patrolman Cameron Blankenship began the investigation and quickly developed a suspect, Ashely N. Johnson 31, Madison, Indiana.  Detective Kyle Cutshaw responded to the scene and took the lead investigative role. 

Officers were able to establish significant probable cause, during the initial investigation, to arrest Ashley Johnson for the assault.  In addition, officers located the knife in which Johnson is believed to have used to stab the victim.

At this point of the investigation, no previous connection between the victim and Ashley Johnson is known.  Officers obtained search warrants for the residence, and for Johnson’s blood.

The victim was treated at KDH-ER and later stat-flown to Louisville, Kentucky.  The victim sustained approximately eleven stab wounds to the upper torso and arms of her body.  This is an active investigation pending the results of Johnson’s toxicology report.  The crime scene was processed by an Indiana State Police Crime Scene Technician.  

Ashley N. Johnson 31, Madison, Indiana, faces preliminary alleged charges of – ATTEMPTED MURDER L-1 FELONY / BURGLARY L-1 FELONY & AGGRIVATED BATTERY L-3 FELONY.  All charges are alleged, and Ashley Johnson has the presumption of innocence until otherwise proven guilty.
