Traffic stop leads to arrest
                                 
Monday , Madison Police arrested Tammy R. Stewart 46, Madison, Indiana, on narcotic related charges. Patrolman Trent Smith executed a traffic stop on a vehicle in which Stewart was operating. Stewart was found to be driving with a suspended drivers license.
Officer Smith's K-9 partner "Colt" was deployed for an open air sniff around Stewart's vehicle. The K-9 gave his handler a positive indication for the presence of narcotics. During the subsequent search, officers located methamphetamine and paraphernalia associated with the use of drugs.
Tammy Stewart was transported to the Jefferson County Jail, where additional narcotics were found on her person. Stewart faces preliminary alleged charges of Driving while suspended (prior) possession of methamphetamine L-5, possession of paraphanailia, trafficking with an inmate L-5 (carrying narcotics into the jail) and obstruction of justice L-6. Stewart has the presumption of innocence until otherwise proven guilty.
