He will serve as Interim Chief

Madison, Indiana (October 14, 2025) – Mayor Bob Courtney has announced a leadership transition within the Madison Police Department. Effective immediately, Shawn Scudder will no longer serve as Chief of Police.
Assistant Chief of Police Rick Mundt, a 30-year veteran of the department, will serve as Interim Chief of Police. Mundt has held multiple leadership roles throughout his career and brings years of experience and institutional knowledge to the position.
“The safety and well-being of our residents remain our top priority,” said Mayor Bob Courtney. “We are grateful to the men and women of the Madison Police Department for their ongoing commitment to protecting our community. As we move forward, I have full confidence in Assistant Chief Mundt’s leadership. I will continue to support our officers and ensure that essential public safety services remain strong and effective.”
The City will begin the process of selecting a permanent police chief in the coming weeks. During this transition, public safety and the department’s ongoing commitment to serving the residents of Madison will continue without interruption.
