Three arrested during traffic stop

August 5, 2020, @ approximately 1:12 AM - Madison Police Patrolman Cody Lewis conducted a traffic stop on Cragmont Street @ Phillips Lane.  The reason for the stop was failure to use turn signals at Green Road and Cragmont Street. As Officer Lewis approached the vehicle, he noted an odor of marijuana coming from the passenger compartment of the vehicle.  

The odor of marijuana establishes probable cause for the officer to search the vehicle.  During the subsequent search, officers located marijuana, methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.  

The three occupants in the vehicle were identified as Ethan Littrell 19, Holton, Indiana, Michael Jennings 20, Scipio, Indiana, and Will Newby 20, Bedford, Kentucky.  Littrell faces preliminary alleged charges of possession of methamphetamine, possession of marijuana, possession of paraphernalia and visiting a common nuisance.  Jennings faces preliminary alleged charges of possession of methamphetamine, possession of marijuana, possession of paraphernalia, and maintaining a common nuisance.  Newby faces preliminary alleged charges of possession of methamphetamine, possession of marijuana, possession of paraphernalia and visiting a common nuisance.  Michael Jennings was operating the vehicle at the time of the stop.  

Ethan Littrell, Michael Jennings and Will Newby have the presumption of innocence until otherwise proven guilty.  Officer Lewis was assisted by Officers Melton, Nolan, Jackson, Perry and Gibson.
