They received a 95% reading proficiency score

Governor Eric J. Holcomb and Indiana Secretary of Education Dr. Katie Jenner recognized educators from 284 schools where at least 95% of students demonstrated reading proficiency. Governor Holcomb praised the success of the state’s initiative in literacy by saying, ““Our statewide goal of achieving 95% reading proficiency among Indiana students is ever closer because of the work these schools have done and continue to do everyday.” Reading is foundational to all other educational and quality of life goals we set as a state, and I want to commend the educators at each of the schools honored today for their commitment to a brighter future for our students and the state of Indiana.”
Bringing this recognition back to Madison on behalf of Pope John was a very proud moment for Pope John’s principal, Bethany Fewell. She said about this recognition, “I could not be more proud of our teachers and the work that they have put into the state’s Science of Reading push and ensuring that our students receive the best literacy education. I am also very proud of the students at Pope John and their parents who partner with us to provide the best educational experience possible.”
