This investigation remains ongoing. Additional charges may be filed

In the early morning hours of January 29, 2026, at approximately 1:00 a.m., deputies with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office responded to 113 N. Sycamore Drive, Hanover, Indiana, to serve an active arrest warrant.
During the course of the investigation, deputies obtained and executed a search warrant for the residence. As a result of the search, deputies located and seized five firearms, a large quantity of narcotics, and U.S. currency.
As a result of this investigation,
Paxton Smith was arrested and faces the following charges:
• Count 1: Possession of a Firearm by a Serious Violent Felon
• Count 2: Resisting Law Enforcement
• Count 3: Manufacturing/Dealing Methamphetamine
• Count 4: Possession of Methamphetamine
• Count 5: Manufacturing or Distribution of a Substance Represented to be a Controlled Substance
• Count 6: Possession of a Controlled Substance
• Count 7: Possession of a Legend Drug
• Count 8: Possession of a Hypodermic Needle
• Count 9: Visiting a Common Nuisance
• Count 10: Possession of Marijuana
• Count 11: Possession of Paraphernalia
• Count 12: Local Felony Warrant
Christina Walters was also arrested and faces the following charges:
• Count 1: Possession of a Firearm by a Serious Violent Felon
• Count 2: Resisting Law Enforcement
• Count 3: Manufacturing/Dealing Methamphetamine
• Count 4: Possession of Methamphetamine
• Count 5: Manufacturing or Distribution of a Substance Represented to be a Controlled Substance
• Count 6: Possession of a Controlled Substance
• Count 7: Possession of a Legend Drug
• Count 8: Possession of a Hypodermic Needle
• Count 9: Visiting a Common Nuisance
• Count 10: Neglect of a Dependent
